Nutrient
Databases
American
Nutrient Database
Canadian
Nutrient Database
Overview
These databases are developed from
publicly available nutrition information. They are designed
to be simple, every day useable programs at an affordable
price. It is our hope that they will help you eat healthier
and live better.
Both of these programs were
developed in collaboration between LICHEN Software and Gail
A. McQueen, Professional Home Economist
Why Two Nutrition
Programs?
- Food products and hence the data available differs
from country to country.
- Fortification standards and the foods fortified
differ between The United States and Canada.
- Some food products are actually different. Example:
All Canadian flour is hard wheat flour suitable for bread
and pasta. Americans have both hard and soft wheat
flour.
- Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) is legislated in each
country and is different in each country.
- The American Nutrient Database has a good selection
of Indigenous Foods which is not available in the
Canadian data.
Computer Requirements
We have tried to keep this program
open to the widest possible audience. To to this end we have
used a modest database engine that suppports a wide variety
of platforms. The operating system requirements
are:
- Windows: Windows 95 through
Windows XP. Not rated for Vista ... But it works
fine.
- Macintosh OS X: Macintosh OSX
10.0.4 and up.
- Macintosh Classic: Macintosh
Classic System 8.1 and up.
-
- Minimum screen resolution is
800 x 600. Windows users at that size turn all task bars
and menus off. Windows XP at that size, use classic
display mode.
