If you are in the programming business, it is nice to know of a law firm that specializes in technology, especially one that has an international focus.
http://www.thetechnologylawyers.net/
"Douglas Turner Q. C. Professional Corporation is a small, specialized law firm based in the Toronto area of Canada, but with members with national and international qualifications. One of our Firm members is a member of both the Ontario and New York bars. The Firm continues to develop relationships with other law practitioners with experience in technology litigation, patent law, corporate financing and leasing as well as full service corporate law firms, all of whom will work in conjunction with Firm's on specific matters."
If you are in the programming business, and not large, you are also an entrepreneur with properties to protect.
Pinsky Law " assists entrepreneurs in establishing their legal presence through corporate and property interests, including intellectual property and financing. At the stage when clients' businesses are large enough, if necessary, the Firm is helping in partial transition to large accounting, financial, or investment firms. The Firm can continue in an advisory nature and help with keeping an eye on the large firms which are sometimes necessary for public finance and international business transactions. The Firm has experience in effectively policing for the client the work done by large bureaucratic entities whose interests are not always those of the entrepreneurial businessman."
We take it for granted. We use it every day. This one has been my favorite.
This is an Email program that has been around in the Mac World for a long time. It is available for both Macintosh and Windows platforms. Eudora comes in three flavours: Full, Sponsored and Lite. Sponsored and Lite versions are free. The full version comes with spam and scam control features.
I have tried several Email clients with the native send mail commands for FileMaker Pro. This is the one that gives the most consistent results. If you will be doing extensive emailing from a FileMaker Solution that is not using plug ins, this is the client to use.
A further plug.....I subscribe to many technical list servers and make heavy use of filter reports and multiple mail boxes. I have not found a client that will handle this kind of traffic as well.
Update Nov. 2007 - Eudora is not for sale any more. It have gone open source and is becoming part of the Mozilla Project. Howeveer, versions of Eudora are still avialable for download, free at the site above.
Allume Systems, previously Aladdin Systems are the creators of Stuffit Deluxe, Drop Stuff and Stuffit Expander. These are must have file compression, expansion and translation utilities for Macintosh owners. They have also released versions of these great products for Windows users.
Adobe Systems is the originator of the PDF format. They produce the most full featured PDF creators. For more information go to Adobe Systems:
On Macintosh OS X, PDF creation is native to the operating system. To create PDF's, just use the print command and from within the printer driver use the "Save As PDF" option.
On Macintosh Classic try PrintToPDF. This is a shareware print driver. Once installed, just select it from the Chooser and create PDF's. It is available from:

ehMac.ca is a Canadian web forum devoted to Macintosh users. There are technical discussions and a trading post section.
FMForums has many FileMaker on line web forums covering all versions of FileMaker Pro and many different topics.
If you are not familiar with the concept of Email List Servers, they are a wonderful low bandwidth method of distributing information. They work as follows:
1. You subscribe to the List Server
2. When you have a question, you compose an Email and send it out to the List Server address.
3. It is received by the List Server then sent out to all subscribers by the List Server.
4. If some one, some where in the world , has an answer to your question, they will post to the list.
5. You will receive your answer.
I have posted to list servers many times with problems. In one instance I received posts back, all with good answers, within an hour, from Canada, U.S.A., Australia and Japan. It is hard to beat that kind of communication.
Below are some links and subscription addresses to list various servers.

The advent of Plug-Ins has given third party functionality this program. Using plug-ins I have been able to design specialty Email clients and perform sophisticated file manipulation outside of the base program. There are more Plug-Ins being released every day, so there is no possibility of giving any form of exhaustive list here. Currently there are Plug-ins for such diverse functions as: Email transmission and reception, file manipulation, data encrypting/decrypting, exterior application manipulation, credit card authorization, higher level mathematical calculations and graphing ... And the list goes on. Below are two sites for companies I have used. Both have several plug-in offerings.
I have used their File Plug-in for manipulation of files exterior to the programs I was building at the time. This is a very powerful plug-in.

I have used both SMPTit and POP3it in building custom Email clients. I have used FTPit for file transport between remote users and servers.
This site has a searchable plug in list that is quite extensive.
This is a collection of links that I am putting in "Just Because" in one way or another they may be helpful to some people.
Gail is my wife. She is also usually about 10 years ahead of time on nutrition related issues. Many of the readers of these pages are in business for themselves and all issues relating to health and welnness become of importance when you find that you tend to work yourself into the ground.
Some guys collect cars. I had one PowerBook 1400. When I told people I wasa going to bring it up to be usable, I was donated two more. I started looking into the specs and upgrades and became a fan. This is a 1996 vintage Apple Laptop that was ahead of its time. It has 2 PCMCIA slots from a time when there was no cardbus standard. It has it's processor mounted on a daughterboard, so it is easily upgradable. Buying the latest and greatest in accellerators for this machine will give up to a 1600% (16x) speed boost. There were two screen versions, one being one of the first active matrix displays ever and the other being a serviceable passive matrix display. It also has one of the nicest keyboards and smallest footprints of any laptop ever. The main one I have is going to become my absolute virus proof web surfer/cafe cruiser.
Update Nov. 2007 - Mine is now fitted out with a 333 Mhz G3 Accelerator, full whopping 64 Mb of RAM, PCMCIA Wi-Fi card, a PCMCIA 2 Gb compact flash card formatted as a second hard drive and a new 30 Gb internal hard drive. I need a new battery for it and I want to get a 466 Mhz Accelerator, when I find a good Ebay or other deal. It goes to Williams Coffee Pub from time to time as a cafe cruiser ( can plug in there) and the rest of the time it is my Kitchen Laptop, used for web surfing and email.

I have been reading Science Fiction and Fantasy since I was a child. I maintain an extensive collectiion of novels from new back to the early 1950's. The site above contains a wealth of information on the subject from bibliographies to author biographies. It is well organized and really nicely done. It is worth the click trip.
